Al Bano
Al Bano Carrisi was born on May 20, 1943, in Cellino San Marco (Puglia). Passionate about music from an early age, he moved to Milan at 16, influenced by Domenico Modugno. After a brief period with the Clan Celentano, he achieved huge success in 1967 with the song “Nel sole.” He then enjoyed a string of international hits (“Sharazan,” “Felicità,” “È la mia vita”), earning several prestigious awards. In 1984, he won the Sanremo Festival with Romina Power for the song “Ci sarà.”
In the 1990s, he turned to documentary filmmaking about his life and released the album “Emozionale,” collaborating with Paco de Lucia and Montserrat Caballè. From 1996, he resumed his solo career at Sanremo, while moving closer to the world of opera, even performing alongside Placido Domingo and José Carreras.
Al Bano became a regular on successful TV shows (“Una voce nel sole”) and stood out for his religious and humanitarian commitments. He was named a UN ambassador against drug abuse and published several bestselling autobiographies.
Between 2007 and 2011, he returned to Sanremo (“Nel perdono,” “Amanda è libera”), and in 2013 appeared as a special guest. From 2018, he broadened his activities: serving as a coach on “The Voice”, launching international tours (Russia, China, South Korea), and collaborating with Fabio Rovazzi.
Despite the pandemic, Al Bano continued performing and appearing on popular TV shows (“Ballando con le stelle,” “Il Cantante Mascherato”). In 2023, he celebrated his 80th birthday with a major concert at the Arena di Verona, and already has many projects lined up for 2024 and 2025.
